Before you buy, learn what others have experienced with the business or product you are considering.

Post your experiences so others can avoid your problems or share your joy.

Don't let others be harmed by the quack who harmed you. Drive bad businesses permanently out of business. Help good businesses prosper with your praise.

Find business, product or service

Use our Forums system to search for product or service experiences before you buy. You need not be a registered participant to search. Just select the Access the Messages Database link and search for messages pertinent to your general interest by selecting the appropriate "Consumer" forum from the pop-up menu. Three existing forums are
Consumers Report - Auto,
Consumers Report - General and
Consumers Report - Medical.
More specific searches can be performed by adding a key word or phrase to the message field as well as selecting a forum. A list of all of the messages that match your criteria will appear.

Describe business, product or service

Use our business card system to be easily found by local and type of business. Use the Forums system to Post your problems with or praise of specific products or services. You must be a registered participant to add messages or forums, so first select the Access the Participant Database link.

Consumer Alert

If you have been harmed by a product or otherwise wronged by a business and have exhausted every recourse but legal action, we encourage you to do the following:

  1. Write a letter using your word processor or email program.
    1. Date the letter.
    2. Get appropriate addresses for the letter and include all of them in the beginning of the letter.
    3. Concisely describe your personal experience in chronological order with as little emotion as possible, i.e. use few adjectives or adverbs. State only the facts as you know them. Do NOT use pronouns, like you or your. In every case use the name of the company or product as appropriate.
    4. Conclude in a separate paragraph the threat to engage in legal action within thirty days of their receipt of your letter if their contract is not honored or you are not otherwise made whole.
    5. Further conclude in a separate paragraph the threat to post your experience on the Consumers-Report.com forum.
    6. Further conclude in a separate paragraph the threat to issue a Consumer Alert email message with the request that it be forwarded by all recipients. Include the fact that it will only be a matter of weeks from the time the message is issued before practically everyone with an email address will be aware of how you were dishonored by the business.
    7. Print and mail the letter(s) certified mail to each address.
    8. Save the digital version of the letter as a file for subsequent use should the business not be forthcoming.
  2. Post your experience on one of the forums described above.
    1. If the letter fails to achieve the desired results, copy the date, address list and description of your experience, excluding the forum and email threat paragraphs, and paste it into a forum message.
  3. Email your experience to everyone on your personal email address list.
    1. Copy everything, including the last two paragraphs from your letter and paste it into an email message.
    2. Ad an extra space or two between the last paragraph and the rest of the message.
    3. Modify the last paragraph to address the recipient rather than the business and encourage them to forward the message to everyone on their list to save others the torment you suffered.
    4. Send the message to every email address you have.
